DO vs. MD

DO's and MD's are fully licensed to practice medicine in all fifty states.

DO's and MD's can prescribe medication and perform surgery.

DO's and MD's train side by side in residency and internship programs all over the country.

The only discernible difference in medical school training at DO school and MD schools is the additional hands on Osteopathic training DO's receive as a basic requirement for their degree.

Most DO's graduate and practice allopathic medicine like their MD counterparts.

Entrance exam scores of matriculating MD students are somewhat higher than DO students.

A higher percentage of DO's enter the primary care fields.

The basic tenets of DO philosophy are holistic which also sets it apart from MD or allopathic philosophy.  (See About Osteopathy)
